.:: NO SAVIOR'S CITY ::.

[Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Mago_rp_op_zpsf3414af3
"No savior's city" is an experimental adventure using the New World Of Darkness subsystem "Mage - The Awakening", with the rules revision from "The god-machine chronicles" Appendix.

It is an attempt, albeit small, to build a mage setting that is not centered on north america or europe. This one will take place in Salvador, a coastal capital of the State of Bahia, in Brazil. It will be focused on the path of mages just immersed on the mysteries and chaotic organizations of the city, as well as the emerging Mage Society that is trying to bloom in it.

Not currently accepting players. But you may talk to me about it, who knows.

.:: GAME RULES ::.

Characters

Characters will be made using the god-machine chronicles rules for character creation plus the following official adaptations for mage:
  • Mages now get 10 merits points instead of 7
  • Mage armor that says it prevents grappling bolsters defense. Those that don't, give armor.
  • Mages do not risk loss of wisdom from seeing supernatural things.
  • Besides aspirations, mages can have obsessions: Supernatural mysteries they are currently working on understanding.. It is recommended at first not to fill all the obsessions, as something in the campaign may eventually be used. Different from aspirations, obsessions may be a fixed thing e.g "Studying ghosts" -- with this, everytime you learned something about ghost, a point would be awarded.
  • Obsessions adds up with aspirations to make the minimum of aspirations and obsessions a mage may have -- 3. So she can have 2 aspirations and 1 obsession, for example, for a maximum of 3 aspirations and 3 obsessions. Remember, tough, that having more aspirations and obsessions is a good thing: Is what will give you all Experience Points.

Dice Rolling
All the dice will be rolled by me, tough most of it will be in front of the players, using the Dice Master bot. That means you can all abstract most of the number rules if you want. Even in combat, you can state your action as you would imagine in a real combat, like "punch him in the face" and not "I make a called shot to his face with brawl using my full action.

Setting Knowledge
Deep setting knowledge is not required. Actually, when it is required and something you should know, I'll explain properly. Be wary that even somethings in the core rulebook may not apply exactly as written, as the Consilium, for example, does not work the same way they do in Europe and North America.

Background
Every character needs to have a background. It needs not to be really detailed, but must at least give me an idea as to why he is here and how his personality and life are like.

[Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Empty
PostSubject: Re: [Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City   [Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Icon_minitimeThu 17 Jul - 14:28

.:: THE PLOT ::.

Salvador, despite being the oldest city in Brazil, does not possess a strong or organized magical tradition. The reasons for that seem to be many, ranging from the historical veiled persecution of witches ( primarily from the black monks that came soon after the jesuits ) to the low interest in the city mysteries, all too often claimed by more powerful entities already well established in there.

Despite all that, Salvador have not been entirely forgotten by the mage society and recently gained some new interest by members of the Consilium. Reasons for that have been, to say the least, cloudy, and are often dismissed as “classified information”, acessible only to the higher-ups of the magical organizations. New investments and the relocation of some important artifacts to local universities have been viewed as a mixed-blessing, as mages who grew used to be free from the world of conspiracy and obligations they think the magic society is, saw this attention as an incovenience. As a result, it has not been uncommon for exchange students  to be sent to complete their training in this city’s facilities. One of such places is Bahia’s Federal University (UFBA) , which has had historical ties with the Mysterium and the Silver Ladder. Truth be said, nowadays its relation with the supernatural world is weak, and the classes on those subjects are barely mantained, but it is still there for anyone that Awakens and happens to discover the secret.

Student Requirements
- All mage students must attend to one of the university undergraduate courses in its main campus, to disguise their activity.
- The use of the university sanctum needs approval and is only available on certain times and on days with no major events on the campus.
- If the mage has no place to stay, the university provides a hostel for them, tough is not always guaranteed he will live only with other mages.

The Hook
You are a student at the university. It is a new semester and there is some unsettling in the air. In the past sixth months, if rumors could be believed, there have been a rise in violence in the region around the campus and this seems to be reflected in the behavior of some students, even leading to the tragic suicide of Victoria Cavalcanti, a medicine student .

Already three weeks in and there was no magic teacher to be found for any of you -- only rarely a substitute who obviously studied magic only in a cultural way. Attempts to contact the collegiate about this gave you all the information that the man who was to be teaching you was in the university all day long, but no one could give you a fair description of him.

Just yesterday, the collegiate informed you that due to the absence of a lot of students among of some related extension courses, all of them would be ministered in the same place, by Professor Aidos in PAF3.

[Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Empty
PostSubject: Re: [Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City   [Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Icon_minitimeSun 31 Aug - 21:11

The black clouds casts a shadow over the university campus. It is 23th june, a monday, and yesterday rained almost non-stop in the whole city. Luckily or not, the rain did not come at today’s dawn, and the university was, at least, reachable.

The normal classes happened just as usual, with surprisingly few absences. It was, as it seemed, just a usual rainy day.

Friday each of you received a notification, either through the collegiate or by e-mail. On it, the teacher who was supposed to be giving classes on magic was complaining about how having so many classes was not working for him, and that, given that most of the students of his were not coming to the university anyway, it would be better to create a single class from now on. That class would happen on the mathematics institute, on a room only seldomly used.

After a walk in the campus and the building, taking some stairs down, turns and a not so well illuminated corridor, you all arrived, by any means, to the classroom, located on the underground floor. The class was more spacious than most others, and had chairs forming a semicircle around the center. There is an air-conditioner, but it is not turned on. A closet exists right near a teacher’s desk where there is no teacher to be found. The class was supposed to start at 2 P.M.

The time passes, and the only people that arrive in the class are yourselves.

(( And it's on! The order of your posts will be the order by which you arrive at the classroom ))

[Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Empty
PostSubject: Re: [Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City   [Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Icon_minitimeSun 31 Aug - 22:58

April was not pleased, as usual. She gained the habit of leaving 40 minutes early to any appointment, as the unpredictable traffic was a tricky force of the city, exercising it's 'playfulness' when mostly undesired. She cursed the classes privately, as the set hour meant she had to skip lunch and grab something to eat on the way, while driving - an action she hated, but not as much as arriving late. Still, she had to enroll the classes, and it wouldn't be for a very long time, so complaining was pointless (cursing, however, proved really effective as a stress-relief practice, specially during traffic time).
She didn't like the place from the start: everything was either too ruined, or too far, or too fuggy, or it all together, such as this classroom. She had entered the university for 2 weeks now, and was somewhat disappointed regarding the campus structure. But, once again, she had to put it all behind and focus on what really matter, the sauna room with a non-existing air conditioner.

"That is just great." she whispered.

April entered the room, put her giant polka-dot purse (almost backpack size) and notebook on the closest chair to the door, and went fussing around the teacher's area, looking for the control to turn the equipment on, before the room made any more damages to her make up. It's not like the teacher would arrive on time, or else he/she would be there already.

PostSubject: Re: [Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City   [Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Icon_minitimeSun 31 Aug - 23:40

The controller was nowhere to be seen: Not above the locker, where there was only dust and plastering detritus, not anywhere in the wall or above the table.

Fussing around the teacher's table, a fine and bulky oak furniture, April finds a printed note inside its drawer saying: "Teacher, please return the AC Control to the locker by the end of the class".

The drawer bottom seems strangely off, somehow.

(( Well, first roll and it is already an exceptional success. ))
(( I assumed that "fussing the teacher's area" involved looking at his table too. Should've asked first, so correct me if she would not do that :3 ))

((Nope, it's ok, she would search everything that wasn't locked Cool Posting a longer action cause everyone seems to be late to class u_u))
((And of course I'm a success /o/))

"Damn."

The oddly drawer bottom got April's attention, but turning the air conditioner on was a more urgent matter, so she decided to give a try at the locker, maybe that was the cabinet the note was referring to. If not, she could always go back to investigate the drawer, it's not like she had anything better to do then sit and wait.

The cabinet was shut tight, its key nowhere to be seen. It felt almost empty too, as it shook a bit just by testing its door.

Back to the drawer, April notices that it has a false bottom -- a very well placed and discrete one, although not enough to go unnoticed by her.

Hidden beneath the thin wooden plank was only a book that, by its looks and marks, was borrowed from the university library.

April decided to take the book. Maybe the key could be hid inside it? She was bothered so much by the heat by now that any unrealistic stupid movie ideas wouldn't get wasted. If only the air conditioner wasn't off! Dang, it seems like punctuality wasn't a needed quality to any of these magic teach --- oh wait.

April was standing in front of the table, holding the old book, staring at the machine. If he was right, then she would be able to turn it on. For her makeup's sake.

((I'm not sure, should I say what route I use for this? Or just describing what I want to do is enough? xD))

There was nothing extraordinary with the book. In the cover, it could be read : "History of the Federal University of Bahia" as well as the strip with a "PN421" written on it, its code in the library.

Turning the air conditioner on was not that difficult, as it could be easily powered up just by giving him a brief intense electrical discharge.

As soon as it started functioning, it threw a lot of dust in the air, taking a moment until it settled on the ground. Its temperature was not visible, but it looked liked it worked alright.

((Raxiell - I'm sorry I forgot to log on! Got distracted after work xD
Mococa - I think I'd prefer if you rolled? I dunno what everyone else thinks though))

Faywen scowled. The presence of so many humans infuriated her. It was a constant reminder of how much she hated them. But she had to stick to the plan. She glanced over her shoulder and smiled as she saw Mizurai scampering through the trees behind her. At least he kept her sane. Suruka too.

She had received the notification of the new class set-up by their mage teacher and was curious to see what would come about from the class. She supposed university had its perks. One could never know too much about one's enemy and taking magic classes would definitely be an asset.

Her eyes narrowed as she saw some boys in the courtyard but it was too risky to do anything so she just tossed her ombre hair over her shoulder dismissively and headed towards the mathematics institute. As she entered the classroom on the underground floor, she frowned, well... looks like she wasn't late. She sneezed as some of the dust blown by the air conditioner tickled her nose.

There was another student there. Faywen inclined her head slightly in greeting and then went to take a seat.

[Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Empty
PostSubject: Re: [Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City   [Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Icon_minitimeMon 1 Sep - 11:03

Even being in the fifth period, Jack never took a real magic class. Sometimes his score was not enough to enroll the class and sometimes what seemed a magic discipline, was just a weird optional class with a sleeper teacher. He always knew that UFBA's organization was a little... shitty. But he never thought that applied to the Awaken part of the university as well.

He planned not going in the first day. Who went to classes in the first day anyway? But since the rain stopped… what the hell? Sure it won’t hurt to check the teacher and the classmates.

He got really early in the university, since he got classes at the morning too (the curse that falls upon nearly every B.I student). After lunching some horrible food at the university restaurant, Jack could have reached the class without being late. But instead, lost track of time talking to some fellow students and a punk guy who sold handmade jewelry at the campus.

After some time, he remembered that he should go to the class. It was somewhere in the mathematics institute, but Jack didn’t know the which room. After a few seconds thinking, he resolved to follow at distance a black haired girl who seemed a little off the place.

Jack entered the room in time to see she nodding at a student that was already at the place.

The teacher were nowhere to be seen.

“I thought that i was a little late”, said Jack as he took off his sunglasses and pocketed it in his trench-coat, “maybe it’s my lucky day”.

He smiled to the girls and looked around the room.

@Mococa - I don't wan to roll! Too much work u.u ))

Oh well, since I'm here anyways.

"If you need the help of luck to get you on time for classes, then you should consider a teaching career; apparently, you already got half of what it takes." April smiled at the newcomer, in a clear ironic tone.

Despite being overweight, April never tried to hide her body. For that day, she was wearing a V neckline short dress with short loosely ruffled sleeves, with a red sleek satin ribbon tied up right beneath her breasts. Her a cleavage was so low it ended about 1 inch before the red bow starts, April had big breasts and loved to display as much as legally possible of them. Her red hair was tied up in a striped black and white scarf, displaying only the bangs in the forehead. She also had white pearl earrings on, and a heavy metallic bracelet in her right hand. A tick Amy Winehouse style eyeliner covered her light-pupil eyes, and a deep red hue colored her lips, in a clear contrast with her very light skin.

She proceed to sit on her chair, not waiting for a reply - she wasn't there to make friends, so reading the book seemed a more interesting affair then learn about the newcomers, as she didn't care about them anyways.

Jack looked at the fat girl, smiled and shook his head. Then he looked to the other girl and shrugged.

"Sounds like you're new to UFBA, kiddo", said Jack while wandering the room. "No use arriving early to the classes. Most of the teachers won't do it. When they do, they still need to get the keys to the room, the air conditioner control, maybe students list or something... or just talk with someone in the corridor. I dunno."

He smiled amiably and sitted on the teacher's desk, doesnt' minding that the rockabilly girl wasn't looking at him at all.

"Anyways, the name's Jack. What 'bout girls?"

((@Mococa - I would prefer that you rolled my dice, since i'm still reading about the rules, but if you think it will be too laborious i can do it))

It was time for his class but Kinson wasn't worried about it. His time at UFBA taught him that it's organization was a mess. He finished listening to one of his favourite musics in his car, got his backpack and went to his class. He buttoned his suit and adjusted his four fingers, bearing skulls and pagan symbols, in his right hand. Arriving about 20 min late, he only found three other students but no teacher. Kinson opened his mouth to deliver a "Good Afternoon" like the good manners demanded, but they probably wound't worry about education, so he forget about it and just nodded with the head quickly.

He took a chair and sat in the far back of the room, relaxed and just begun to observe the scene. Fortunately the AC was on and after a few minutes he took his cellphone and began to play while waiting the teacher to arrive.

Jack was waiting for the girls respond when the door opened. A guy in a suit and "snobbish elite" written all over his face entered and nodded. Jack's smile faded and he scowled. His eyes followed the newcomer with suspicion and unpleasantness until the rich guy sat. Only then Jack looked back to the girls, forcing a smile and waiting for a response.

((You chose the right colour Raxiell xD))

Faywen stared out of the window trying to spot Mizurai. Maybe he had wandered off somewhere but she was sure she had told him time and time again to stay somewhere she could see him. She sighed, shook her head and then noticed someone staring at her. Seemed like he was looking for a response.

She let the silence hang in the air as she observed the two newcomers. Both boys. She shuddered internally and smoothed her dress to calm herself. Keep it together, she thought as she put on a big smile and extended her hand like she had been taught, "My name's Faywen."

[Mage - The Awakening] No Savior's City Empty

As the room was located underground, all that it could be seem by its ridiculously small windows was... earth. There was some space between the windows and the earth wall, but it did not looked spacious enough for flapping wings.

Windows was a strange terms to refer to the glass panels, actually: Its main function seemed to be to provide additional illumination to the room, a role that it did not do that well.

April wasn't really paying attention to her classmates; the fact that the book had nothing interesting really bugged her. Why such an useless book would be hidden in a false bottom of a drawer? This was seriously stupid. She did realized someone else had entered the room, but didn't care enough to look, and the stranger also didn't care to introduce himself.

She decided to search the book for something at least interesting, maybe a folded or ripped page, anything. After all, it was a special class, and things couldn't just be coincidence. Plus, it was a good excuse to avoid interaction with her new acquaintances, as none of them really got her attention; well, one of them did, but just as a force of habit.
